Before Yakov’s death, I would have written off everyone involved in robotics as vile, sadistic sociopaths with no regard for human life. Now I see things differently. We must not forget that the robiticists are still humans. Chances are they have emotions and the capacity to love.
Recently I had an enlightening one-sided exchange with one of the worlds foremost robot enthusiasts. He happens to be a roboticist as well. I was researching malice-bots (robots designed to fight), and came across the following video posted by YouTube user BramVanderborght.
I fell into a rage, and began 1 starring his videos, and spamming his pages with anti-robot comments. Then I began to think. How can I show Bram the light? How could I convince him that humans are better than robots? What can humans do that robots can’t?
After hours of deep meditation, it finally came to me.
I had to show Bram unconditional love. Robots are incapable of love, the only emotions that can be programmed are scorn and hate.
Here’s a copy of the message I sent to Bram:
Hello Bram,
I am an anti-robot activist. I am not an anti-robotic researcher activist. If my comments come off as harsh, it is only because I am passionate about my saving the human race and I have an enormous heart. My heart is so big that I love humans even if I believe they are responsible for the imminent war that will claim the lives of billions.
Paradoxical as it may seem, robot-makers are a vital ally for anti-robot activists. If we have any hope of defeating them in battle, we need the scientists and researchers that know their vulnerabilities. Should you ever see the light, and realize that you are creating doomsday devices that will wipe out the human race, remember you have allies that are fighting the good fight.
Unlike robots, humans can forgive and love unconditionally. That is the difference.
